Onglyza is a medication used for individuals with Type 2 diabetes. It functions by reducing elevated blood sugar levels by stimulating the pancreas to release additional insulin into the bloodstream. Additionally, it prevents the liver from producing excessive sugar when blood sugar levels are high.
The dosage and frequency of Onglyza will depend on its strength and your health condition. Follow your physician’s instructions precisely. Do not change your dosage or abruptly discontinue the medication without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better. Doing so may worsen your symptoms and increase the risk of unintended side effects. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Avoid taking a double dose to compensate for the missed one.
Like all medications, Onglyza may cause side effects in some users. Common side effects include weakness, nausea, runny nose, skin redness, hives, shortness of breath, rashes, itching, wheezing, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, and loss of appetite. If any of these symptoms worsen or persist, contact your physician.
Rarer side effects of Onglyza can include rapid unexplained weight gain, anxiety, lower back pain, depression, cold sweats, blurred vision, dizziness, cough, blood in urine, pale skin, chills, coma, nightmares, increased appetite, bladder discomfort, and ear or chest congestion. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your physician immediately or seek emergency medical assistance.
Avoid taking Onglyza if you have an allergy to it or any of its components.
Inform your doctor about any allergies you have to other medications, dyes, food, preservatives, or other substances, if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding, and about any other prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal and dietary supplements you are currently taking.
